World’s popular travel review portal TripAdvisor announced the winner of it’s choice awards for the best global destinations. Kathmandu has listed on 23rd rank out of top 25 best destinations under ‘2016 Travellers’ Choice Awards’. The list is based on the quality and quantity of user reviews and ratings of the destination’s hotels, restaurants and attractions considering the millions of reviews over the 12 months period as well as traveler booking interest on it’s website.
TripAdvisor has mentioned that the award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide. Beside the destinations, the travel website has also identified top-rated hotels, popular tours, iconic attractions and upcoming events to offer. ‘The Travellers’ Choice Destination awards recognise the world’s most beloved travel spots, based on feedback and booking interest from the TripAdvisor community.
Kathmandu is the only south Asian destinations in the TripAdvisor’s list which features London as the most favourite destination, ranked in one. Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo, among others, are other Asian destinations in the list. Similarly, Istanbul, Paris, Prague, Rome, New York City and Dubai are the other top destinations in the list.
According to the Trip Advisor “Nepal’s capital is surrounded by a valley full of historic sites, ancient temples, shrines, and fascinating villages. Mingle with locals and animals amid Durbar Square’s monuments, or join mountain trekkers in the bustling Thamel district”, “Explore shops for exquisite work by local artisans-carpets and paper prints are specialties.”
The recognition by Trip Advisor has excited tourism entrepreneurs whose confidence was weakened by the devastating earthquakes of 2015 that battered the service industry. Kathmandu being a traveler choice would be great achievement for Nepal’s tourism industry. It has indicated that there will be a remarkable improvement in tourism industry particularly to revive the tourism industry. This would be the golden opportunity for Nepalese entrepreneurs and leaves the positive message and encourages the tourist to visit Nepal.
