Helambu trek region is one of the popular treks among the trekkers for its scenery and favorable climate, which is also considered to be the short trek nearby Kathmandu Valley. Helambu is located about 70km northeast of Kathmandu; it spreads from north of Taramarang to the Gosainkunda Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal. Helambu trek offers several highland Tamang and Sherpa villages, scattered on both sides of the Malemchi River.  Comparatively it is consider being easier one trek due to the lower elevations ranging from 800m to 3600m, less climbing as well as warmer temperatures. The most important benefit of Helambu treks is that the area is comparatively less crowded, un-spoiled & free from noise in comparison to the other treks. Besides short and easy trek, the Helambu trek offers a wide range of cultures and spectacular scenery. The green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of most diverse treks near Kathmandu. The great Himalayan scenery at the border with Tibet and monasteries make the trekkers an enthralling experience in Helambu region of Nepal near by Kathmandu valley.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek Preparation

Day 3: Drive Kathmandu to Sundarijal & trek to Chisapani (2300m): 1hrs drive & 4hrs trek

Day 4:  Chisopani to Kutumsang (2446m): 7hrs

Day 5:  Kutumsang to Thadepati (3650m): 6hrs

Day 6: Thadepati to Tarkeghyang (2560m): 6hrs

Day 7: Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m): 4hrs

Day 8: Trek to Malemchi to Puul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 4hrs hrs trek/ 2 hrs drive

Day 9: Final Departure:

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
Upon arrival at the airport, meet and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, you have an option to be escorted stroll around Thamel and the local streets of Kathmandu. Welcome dinner in the evening with a typical Nepali cultural program.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek Preparation
After breakfast, start sightseeing coveringthe UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, which are Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swyambhunath Stupa.  Kathmandu Durbar Square area holds the palaces of the medieval Kings who ruled over the Kathmandu Kingdom. Swayambhu meaning the "the self-existent" is popular among the foreigners as Monkey Temple owing to the large number of monkey population residing in this area. In the afternoon you will get short briefing and discussion regarding trekking.

Day 3: Drive Kathmandu to Sundarijal & trek to Chisapani (2300m): 1hrs drive & 4hrs trek
Today, a 15km drive from Kathmandu takes you to the starting point of the trek to Sundarijal (1350m). From Sundarijal trek to Chisopani (2300m), takes about 4 hours. We begin our trek along a small hydroelectric plant. The trail then enters through into the Shivapuri National Park.  The first settlement we come across is Mulkharka mostly inhabited by the Tamang people. Then we walk along the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani.

Day 4:  Chisopani to Kutumsang (2446m): 7hrs
After taking our morning breakfast, we head for a journey to Kutumsang. Our todays trek starts with a decent crossing meadows and fields. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Langtang mountains. Thus we arrive at Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang. From Gul Bhanjyang, the trail climbs the ridge to another pass. Another downhill trek from the pass takes us to Kutumsang.

Day 5:  Kutumsang to Thadepati (3650m): 6hrs
We climb above Kutumsang on a steep trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trek continues to Yurin Danda with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Finally, we arrive at Tharepati for our overnight stay.

Day 6: Thadepati to Tarkeghyang (2560m): 6hrs
Today we head for Tarkeghyang. During early part of the trek, the trail descends until we cross the Melamchi Khola. Then we trek up to Tarkeghyang passing through Sherpa settlements. Enjoy the Himalayan peaks ofter appear before you glistening in the sunshine. Discover the village and its monastery which is one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the region. The village is more popularly known as Helambu, since most of the inhabitants belong to the Helmu caste.
Overnight in Tarkeghyang.

Day 7: Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,610m): 4hrs
Since, we do not gain altitude that much today, its going to be comparatively easy walk today. We forests, streams, and waterfalls. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the Sherpa village of Gangyul.  From Gangyul, we arrive at Sermathang. Discover the village. There is also a Buddhist monastery at the highest point of the village.

Day 8: Trek to Malemchi to Puul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 4hrs hrs trek/ 2 hrs drive
On our final day of the trek, we walk down to Malemchi Pul Bazaar. The Sherpa mostly inhabits the village, but there are also people of other ethnicities.  From the Bazaar, we catch a bus to Katmandu. After reaching Kathmandu we have the rest of the day off to rest.
